Nadinath B Nillegoda

Nadinath received his Ph.D. in Biomedical Sciences from Mount Sinai School of Medicine at New York University, USA. He completed his postdoctoral studies at the Center for Molecular Biology at Heidelberg University and the German Cancer Research Center, Germany. In 2019, Nadinath moved to Australia to establish his laboratory as an independent Group Leader at the Australian Regenerative Medicine Institute at Monash University. The overarching research themes in the Nillegoda laboratory include proteostasis, cell repair, and neurodegeneration. A major research focus in the Group involves characterizing a new class of chaperone-based protein disaggregases (aggregate solubilizing machines) that are fundamentally important for cell repair in humans. As a whole, Nadinath’s work is aimed at developing proteostasis-based therapeutic avenues that will lead to new treatments against neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, and other protein conformational disorders that have limited or no cures.
